How Dead Skin Affects Our Appearance

Every 28-48 days, our skin cells turn over naturally but do not always slough off to leave the skin smooth and soft looking. In a perfect world, those dead skin cells would shed and our face would always look bright and clear. Unfortunately, it’s not a perfect world, and dead skin cells build up on our face, making it look dull and provoking breakouts.

How Dermaplaning Can Help

Dermaplaning is a non-invasive, simple way to get rid of the baby vellum facial hair and dead skin cells. With great precision our Medical Esthetician will remove all the vellum baby hairs and the stubborn dead skin cells, leaving your skin looking and feeling luminous.

You will be amazed at how supple feeling and vibrant your skin looks. Your foundation will go on like a dream without caking or flaking. When you put on moisturizer, brightening cream, or any other skincare product, it will be able to penetrate deeper into the skin, giving stunning results. Treatments and the number of treatments vary from patient to patient, and a series of treatments may be required for optimal results. You won’t regret making this a part of your beauty regimen.

Ideal Candidates

You are an ideal candidate for dermaplaning if you have rough or dry skin or an uneven skin tone. It is also a solution worth considering if you have fine lines, shallow acne scars, and superficial hyperpigmentation.

However, dermaplaning is not ideal for people with sunburns or active skin infections. Candidates with skin lesions, acne vulgaris, skin cancer, or a history of keloid formation may not be right for dermaplaning. Dermaplaning is not ideal for those who have recently had a chemical peel or undergone chemotherapy.

Patients with facial tattoos or thick and dark facial hair may not be the best candidates for dermaplaning. Patients taking blood-thinning medications will need to discuss this during their consultation.

Dermaplaning Consultation

Before getting dermaplaning, you will need to come in for a consultation. We will review your medical history, evaluate your skin tone and skin type, and discuss your expectations and goals.

You will receive instructions on how to prepare for the treatment. Aftercare instructions will also be given. Feel free to ask any and all questions.

The Treatment Session

Before dermaplaning, a gentle cleanser with alpha or beta hydroxy acids will be applied to soften the dead skin cells. The face will be left to dry.

During dermaplaning, we will use a scalpel-type blade to remove fine hair, skin cells, and other debris from the surface of your face. The top layer of the skin, which is constantly experiencing damage from UV rays, irritants, and environmental toxins, will be removed to reveal newer skin cells.

Aftercare

After dermaplaning, a moisturizer will be applied to the skin. The treatment requires no recovery time. After the treatment session, you can return to work and all normal activities. You will need to apply at least SPF30 sunscreen.

Multiple sessions are recommended. Most dermaplaning sessions are spaced three to four weeks apart.

Putting Your Worries to Rest
Is This Safe?

In the hands of a professional, this treatment is absolutely safe for all skin tones and types. The key is getting this treatment done by experienced professionals like those at OneLife Health & Performance. You don’t want to trust your skin and a scalpel to anyone else!

Will It Cause Breakouts?

If you’re constantly struggling to stave off a breakout, it’s natural to wonder if this treatment will make everything worse. Don’t worry; your skin’s response is quite the opposite. One of the biggest causes of breakouts is clogged pores and follicles, and getting rid of all that dead skin can actually help to prevent breakouts.

Will My Baby Fine Hair Grow Back Thicker and Darker?

It just doesn’t work that way. What we call “Vellus Hair” is a different type of hair than body hair, and removing it from the skin’s surface will not change the new growth texture or color.

In the hands of a professional, this treatment is absolutely safe for recommended skin types. The key is getting this treatment done by experienced professionals like those at OneLife Health & Performance.

How Much Does Dermaplaning Cost?

Dermaplaning is not covered by insurance, so you will need to cover its cost out of pocket. Ask more about its price during your consultation with us.
