Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

As we age, our hair follicles shrink which can result in hair that is weak, thinning or slow to grow. Many patients, male and female, suffer from pattern baldness or hair loss. We use the newest, innovative method called Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) to help restore hair loss and repair hair follicles for new growth.

If you are looking for minimal scarring, short recovery time and natural looking results with hair restoration, contact OneLife Health + Performance today to start regrowing your hair with Dr. Winnard!

What is FUE?

There are two main hair transplant techniques: the FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) and the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction). which extracts individual hair follicles from an area consisting of growing hair, known as the donor site. Unlike the traditional strip method, which requires the physician to surgically remove a strip of the patient’s scalp, the FUE hair transplant procedure does not require a scalpel. Instead a medical professional utilizes a hand piece, which gives patients little to no discomfort during the hair transplant procedure.

How does FUE work?

The FUE procedure involves a medical professional individually extracting hair follicles from an area consisting of growing hair, known as the donor site. This is usually the lower-back of the head. Each hair follicle contains 1 to 3 individual hairs. These will be carefully separated and strategically re-implanted in areas of the scalp where hair loss has occurred. With Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) there are no stitches or scalpels required and local anesthesia is used to ensure minimal discomfort during the treatment. Since this is a less invasive procedure than FUT, the downtime is reduced to just a couple of days after treatment.

How long is the FUE Treatment?

An FUE hair restoration procedure can take up to 10 hours or more. Local anasthesia will be applied to ensure minimal discomfort during the procedure. Since the FUE transplant uses a minimally invasive method, many patients experience minimal pain during or after their procedure.

    Short Recovery Time

Since there are no scalpel or stitches needed during this treatment, the recovery process after an FUE procedure is short. Usually around 5 to 7 days after the first treatment. There is minimal scarring from the donor area which gives the hair a more natural appearance and can be worn short even after the procedure.
